Merdeka!!! Merdeka!!! Merdeka!!!

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

hahaha…don’t worry…I have not change my nationality…yet…hahaha
nahhh…Singapore is still very dear to me…

This blog entry is sparked off by the ‘Merdeka’ celebration in the Centennial yesterday where a few of us Singaporeans were invited to attend…Thanks to Mr President of UMNO aka Hirman for inviting us and letting us feel what it is like to be patriotic…Selamat Menyambut Kemerdekaan to all my Malaysian friends…

Sitting in the lecture theatre surrounded by Malaysians eager for the countdown to their Merdeka day I reflected on what is like to really feel something strong for one’s country of birth…I mean I am proud to be a Singaporean but it is just that I feel that Singaporeans or at least those I know here in Tassie are not as patriotic as the Malaysians or the Indonesians…
Maybe patriotism should not be seen by one celebrating the national day and such but it is just a feeling that I sometimes get. I feel that Singaporeans should also come together as what our Malaysian and Indonesian brothers and sisters are doing to show our togetherness and unity as a nation in a foreign land. I guess we Singaporeans here need someone like Hirman to start the ball rolling…

It has been a truly enriching experience and I am glad that I eventually decided to attend the function instead of my usual mopping around at home being depressed…
Thanks to my Malaysian brothers and sisters for adding to my ever increasing life experiences here in beautiful Tassie…

Am in bed now…my whole body is aching and the back is the worst…but am feelin a tad chirpy because…
It snowed!!! *grins*
I remembered the first year I was here and the first time I saw snow in Mt Wellington in 2003…I asked someone has it ever snowed in the streets of Hobart before or is it only up in the mountain and the person told me that the last time it snowed on the streets of Hobart was about 15 to 20 years ago…
so yesterday was a magical moment for me…
winter wonderland…
went up to Mt Wellington in the morning and it was snowing heavily
it was so beautiful…mesmerising
white…pure…innocent…
i can’t helped but felt awed by the beauty surrounding me
it was snowing all the way down as well so i went there again in the evening after everyone were done with their classes but the road up was closed so 15 of us walked up and down for about 3 hours…
it has stopped snowin by then but we all still had lots of fun abusing each other with snowballs *grins*
and it snowed this morning in uni and the streets of hobart…
almost two and a half years and this is my third winter in Tassie and the best so far…
am falling more and more in love with Tasmania *smiles*
