Why do we need religion?
This winter break has truly been a test for me…one that I failed but I will not let failure bring me down…I will not let failures deter me from seeking what I truly want and believe in…
and I repeat…I am doing all these for MYSELF…so help me God…if I hear one word about me doin all these because of someone…it will not be a pretty sight…
I am born a Muslim and will always be one despite the fact that I might not have behaved like one before…
Time and age changes everything…
I’ve found an interesting read…I will not type everythin down…juz bits here and there…
Why do we need religion?
‘Religion is not only be about spiritual development. It deals with moral and social issues as well. Without religion, man will experience moral decay and will find himself in spiritual vacuum’ (Majeed, 1995, p6)
‘If a person is happy, healthy, wealthy and without any problems, he may very well say he does not need religion. But if a person is depressed, unhealthy, poor and has many problems, he will start talking about God-is there a God and so on…But it remains a fact that each man has to choose and decide for himself. Nobody can force him to believe in God.’ (Majeed, 1995, pp7-8)
and contrary to what some might believe…again…sighhh…I DID NOT turn to religion because my Life is a mess…
I do not believe in doing that just because you got stuck with some problems…problems will always be there…with or wihout religion…
there’s one difference that I feel though…
That I handle what Life throws at me so much better now…
so…refrain from askin me stupid questions like…
1) Why now? Why not before? (yeah…I will wait till I am at my deathbed…)
2) Are you sure it is not just a phase or a hobby that you pick up now just to desert later on, since you have always been fickle-minded? (I have been born and raised as a Muslim…it is a really entertaining hobby, seriously, with the world now being so sceptical of Islam and all…or I should say, Yeah…I will convert to animism tomorrow and when I get bored some other interesting religion the day after…)
3) Are you trying to be good? (Are you saying that I was bad before? Did I murder any of your family members?)
Seriously people…leave me alone okay? Keep your sarcastic and sceptical remarks to yourself cos I dun wanna hear them…
Actually…you know what…say and do what you want…at the end of the day…It is MY life and I will live it the way I want it to be…I am grateful for all that I had gone through in life…both the good and the bad…and I am the one going through all these and well…not you…so yeah…

I’d like to counter majeed ‘95….whoever he is. I am agnostic and nothing so far that has happened in my life can be explained by the presence of god…i like to attribute my successes and my failures to myself and not other unseen hypothetical forces. Things i can’t explain, i leave it at that and not jump to conclusions on the merits of divinity, much like the cavemen who first saw fire, thinking god was angry and ancient farmers attributing rain to god as well. The reason i don’t set out to hurt people and animals is because i feel bad when i do these things; not because some book written 2000 years ago states that its bad. This is called conscience and if you abscribe your conscience to your religious ethics then what about you as a person. Nothing much huh. If you need religion to help you evolve as a person then well good for you. This term spiritual vaccum cleaner seems to be another one of the many scare tactics the messianic religions like to use. Surely as individuals we are capable of more than just trying to remedy our weaknesses with fantasy.
So many people have died because of religion, done horrible things in the name of god. What happened to their morality. I didn’t want to add anything about islam here coz you should know already. Who is the devil here? The most dangerous type of people are those who dictate what god should be like (religious people) and anyone of them can easily become fanatical because their logic is based on fantasy - fantasy which is not their own but one which someone else came up with thousands of years ago with not a fraction of the real world knowledge that the ordinary man now possesses. Hope you enjoyed my rant. Not an attack. Just a brutally honest perspective.
